Dead Links Are Dead

It recently came to my attention that many links to the photos are dead. This is due to Google switching from Picasa to Google Photos. I will reupload these photos to Google Photos (or a new service) at some point, but for now if there is a dead link just email me and I'll send you a good link to the photos you're looking for.

Thanks! - Darin

Power Trip at Red 7

Check out these photos from Power Trip's show at Red 7 last night. I had car trouble and missed the other bands. Sorry to disappoint.

Keep an eye out on Gray Muncy's Flickr page if you'd like to see some pics of the other bands:

Will To Live/Band Of Mercy

I had the good fortune to finally go to Fallcore this year (yes, it was my first Fallcore ever). My fortunes turned a bit sour with vehicle trouble while in Houston. But I still prevailed and even got around to taking a few photos of Band Of Mercy and Will To Live while I was there. Here they are:

PS - Thanks to everyone in Houston for all their help while I was dealing with all the van trouble.

Losing Grip/Findings/Aspire House Show

Got some shots of a few bands that played an interesting house show last night in Austin. LOSING GRIP played an impromtu "last" show at this show. They only managed to play one full song before the show was shut down because of a noise warning. Be sure to check out Aspire on their tour with A Better Hope Foundation over the next couple of weeks. Good Texas HC dudes.

I pulled out the camera for the following bands:

Findings (From Arlington, TX)
Aspire (from Corpus Christi, TX)

Power Trip/Question

Snapped some shots of Power Trip and Question in Austin, TX on May 20th. There were more bands, but I got lazy again. Hope you like these:

Truth @ The Vista Lounge

Here are some pics of TRUTH from Ft. Worth playing at The Vista Lounge in Tyler, TX (my old home town). This was just one band of about 20 or so that played that day. TRUTH are a youth crew style band and they cover "Nailed To The X." This is not a bad thing.

Check out the photos, their Facebook page and download their demo below:

Cutting Losses/Dead Times/Drawback/Losing Grip

We had a fun show the other night at the Parlor in celebration of DREWXBLOOD's birthday. Here are a few shots I got at the show:

Cutting Losses

Sick Of It All/Outbreak/Mother of Mercy/Bitter End/Losing Grip

I'm way behind on these... sorry for the slackin'

Sick Of It All visited our fair city back in January. I've seen this band MANY times over the years. They never put on a bad show.

Garuda @ Red 7

It's been a long time since I last saw Garuda play live... about 7 years to be exact. Garuda came down to Austin for a FREE WEEK show at Red 7. They did not disappoint and I managed to snap a few shots of them. Good to see the guys again. Check out the photos here: Garuda

There was a great show at The Parlor the Saturday after Thanksgiving with Memoirs of a Mercenary, Cutting Losses, SBS and One Against Many. Thanks to all those that came out.

I only managed to get a few shots of Cutting Losses.

Terror/Grave Maker/Bitter End

I'm getting caught up here, so excuse my tardiness in getting these posted. These are from the Terror "Keepers of the Faith" tour when it came through Austin.

One Against Many/Night Siege/Cutting Losses

Here are some pics from my band's record release show last week at Trailer Space. Many thanks go out to Night Siege, Cutting Losses and Gospel & The Wolf for playing that show.

Also, I want to say thanks again to my friend Eric Hueber for taking pictures of us with my camera (go see his movie Rainbows End at the Austin Film Festival this year).

When I started transferring these pics I noticed they all seemed a little out of focus. Sure enough, my fish eye lens has some kind of problem where it's stuck on "infinity" for the focus. So... I'll be looking in to getting that fixed, I guess. I had to go against my better judgement to upload these pictures, but I gave in and here they are. I am now accepting donations for the lens repairs ;-)

Sorry... it's been a little quiet lately. Hopefully I'll get around to updating this thing more often.

For now, here are some pics of San Antonio's Botfly from a show last night in Houston.

The Life And Times @ The Mohawk

The Life And Times played at the Mohawk a few days ago, so I made my way up there to check them out and take a few pictures. This is a great band. If you are not already familiar, click the link above and check out their tunes. For fans of Swervedriver, Shiner, Hum, etc...

I only managed to get pics of Losing Grip at a show in San Antonio last week. My band played too, so I chilled out a bit in the back during all the other bands. Enjoy what I did manage to get...

Royal Forest @ Emo's

I unexpectedly got to catch Royal Forest (formerly Loxsly) at Emo's last night (thank you, Emo's marquee sign thingee). And this was also a CD release show for Royal Forest, so I got to pick up some new music, as well. Little do they know, but Royal Forest was instrumental in my decision earlier in the day to buy a new desk at Ikea. I strongly recommend taking along an iPod with you to Ikea. The random screams of little children mixed in with the music in your head makes for a much improved Ikea shopping experience. Too bad the desk would not fit in my car. Sad.

Enjoy the pics.

Check them out here if you're not already a fan.

My Education @ Red 7

It had been way too long since I'd seen My Education play a show, so I finally managed to catch them last night at Red 7 after a full year of missing them play. I was not disappointed. They were great as usual. If you weren't there, you missed another great performance. Here is a visual record for your viewing pleasure:

You should go buy some My Education music from one of these fine websites:

Touché Amoré/Losing Grip/Thank God

Here are a few pics from a big hardcore show on the last day of South By South West. There were many more bands on this show (including my band One Against Many), but I only took pics of these three bands while I was there. I saw a couple other people taking pictures, so keep your eyes peeled for those somewhere on the vast expanse that is the internet.

Big Fiction @ Snake Eyes Vinyl

Took a few pictures of Big Fiction at the last show at Snake Eyes Vinyl this last Saturday. That place was stuffed to capacity (probably beyond). Big Fiction put on a great show.

Among the other bands that played was a band from Houston called CAVERNOUS. I didn't really get any photos of them, but I recommend you check them out if you have an opportunity to see them live. I was very impressed. I would say they are instrumental metal in the vein of Russian Circles, but maybe a little more technical. You'd dig it if you're in to that kind of stuff. I am.

So long Snake Eyes.

The Crack Pipes/Bottle Service/Black Panda

Trailer Space Records in East Austin is becoming one of my favorite places to see (and shoot) a show. To steal a line from Ray from the Crack Pipes, Trailer Space shows have a real sense of community. Granted however, the community that was at this show really liked to smoke cigarettes indoors.

Enjoy the photos.

Cough, cough.

Have Heart @ Emo's

Have Heart's final show in Texas was this last Tuesday and it was a hot one. Emo's had this show on the floor outside. and it was a pretty packed show. I really couldn't get a great spot to take pictures. I had to settle for behind the stage. It was still a tight fit. Come to think of it, the last time I took pictures of Heart Heart it was a pretty tight fit, as well (San Anotnio - June 10, 2008) .

Emo's pics here.

Bottle Service @ Carousel Lounge

Once again Bottle Service brought their unique sound and energy to the people - this time within the circus-themed walls of the Carousel Lounge.

I want some snax, man! I want some snaxxxxx!

Trifle Tower/Dark Forces/For Want Of/Chest Pain

Texas is hot these days. It's still close to 100 degrees at 9:00 PM. I just thought you should know.

On to the good stuff... the brave bands that refuse to give in to the heat and play shows in hot Pizza joints. Check out these photos of people sweating.

Anchor/Run With The Hunted/Red Son/Changes

Laziness has set in... I went to this show on 6/19 and I'm just now getting around to updatin' muh blog. Actually, I uploaded the pictures to Picasa like the next day. I just didn't post anything here. So... I'm only part lazy, right?

My free time the last two days has been tied up watching the College World Series. Normally, I hate baseball. But once in a blue moon there is a decent game that I can get into. Last night... great game. Tonight... not so much, but Texas DID win. So... yeah. Who watches baseball anymore?

Enjoy the pics.

Lome Prieta/Trifle Tower/For Want Of

There was good show at Trailer Space Records this last Wednesday. I was not familiar with the out-of-town bands. But I really liked Trifle Tower from Dallas and Loma Prieta from San Francisco. Locals For Want Of were pretty swell, too - as usual. I experimented a lot with various settings and different lenses on the camera at this show, so the pics are all over the place as far as the "look" of each photo.

May 24th, 2009 - Three Shows

The last day of Choas in Tejas... I went to 3 shows today (actually, the ONLY Choas day I attended this year). One was a free show at The Parlor, another at Emo's & the last one at Red 7. I didn't photograph every band that played. Gimme a break - sometimes I get lazy or I just like to watch. Sue me.

Here are some images from the day... click here

This is who you will see: Mind Eraser, Iron Age (@ Red 7 ) - Hatred Surge, No Man's Slave, I Resign, Naw Dude (@ Emo's) - & The Dead Space (@ The Parlor).

Cro-Mags/Trash Talk/Your Mistake

The Cro-Mags are one of my all time favorite bands. My old band used to cover "We Gotta Know" (badly, I'm afraid). Their album "Age of Quarrel" is a hardcore classic. I've now had the opportunity to see them (Cro-Mags jam) twice within the last year. This show was at The Rock Bottom Tattoo Bar in San Antonio. Cro-Mags played Choas in Tejas this year at Emo's in Austin the day before this show, but I opted to see the San Antonio show in a little smaller venue (something about Emo's outside stage has always bothered me - it's not as intimate, I guess). As it turns out, I was on stage during the Cro-Mags set standing not more than 3 feet from Craig Ahead the entire time. It was an honor to take pictures of them. Click here for the photos.

The kids at this show simply WENT OFF for Trash Talk. They sang nearly every word of every verse they played. I've seen them a few times in Austin, but this was by far the best Trash Talk show I have ever seen. Pics here.

This was also my first opportunity to see Your Mistake from Houston. It was a great set. Their drummer quit the band a few days before this show (wtf!?!). So they reached out to their original drummer to fill in for this show. I couldn't tell because they sounded great. Pics here.

Earth Crisis/Reign Supreme/Unholy/For The Glory

I recently got a new f/1.8 50mm lens. This show was the first show using the new lens. So this was mostly an experiment in low light/no flash photography (okay - there are a few w/ the flash). I'm also not used to the crazy depth of field this lens has. But there are still a few great pics in these sets. I can tell I will be having some fun with this lens in the future. Links below...
